Liberty Lake Blotter: Hit-and-run suspect, half naked, arrested

April 26--A Liberty Lake police officer got a bit of a surprise last week when he pulled over a woman suspected of a hit-and-run accident involving a fence: The woman was naked from the waist down.

The accident was reported in the 6100 block of North Harvard Road just after 1 p.m. on April 19. The woman's car was easy to locate because it was dragging a section of the barbed wire fence behind it, said Police Chief Brian Asmus.

In addition to the woman's state of undress, the officer also noticed an open 12-pack of beer on the seat next to the woman and that she was slurring her words, Asmus said. She reportedly told the officer she was driving without a portion of her clothing because she'd had an accident.

A Spokane County deputy took over the driving under the influence investigation after he arrived on scene, Asmus said.

Other incidents reported from April 14-21:

April 16: A woman in the 23000 block of East Broadway Avenue called police to report coming home and finding her husband unresponsive. The man apparently died of natural causes.

April 18: A badly injured deer was reported in a ditch. The deer was euthanized.

April 19: The theft of $95 worth of items was reported from a business in the 21000 block of East Mission Avenue.

Sunday: A Liberty Lake officer responded to the area of Sullivan Road and Euclid Avenue to assist two deputies who were fighting with a suspect.

A caller reported a man sleeping near dumpsters in the 1800 block of North Pepper Lane and asked that he be removed.

Arrests: Police made eight arrests for driving with a suspended license and five for driving under the influence.

Citations: Officers handed out four citations for failure to show proof of liability insurance, two for defective muffler, two for illegal use of studded tires and eight for speeding. Additional citations were given for expired vehicle registration, failure to dim headlights, use of a cellphone and texting while driving.
