Police said officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart in Mt. Pocono around 12:46 a.m. for two retail theft suspects who fled the store in a black Mitsubishi. A few minutes later, officers found the vehicle on state Route 940 east, heading towards state Route 611 and initiated a traffic stop. Both Stephen Orlando, 22, Drums, and Ryan Composto, 23, Hazleton, were taken into custody and lodged in Monroe County Correctional Facility. They were arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Fluegel, who set each of their bails at $2,500 for charges of retail theft, conspiracy for retail theft and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Both await a preliminary hearing.

Man faces DUI, falsification charges

Hazleton police charged a city man after a two-car crash May 10.

Elliot Gorritz-Perez, 35, faces two counts driving under the influence and one count each false identification to police, accidents involving damage to attended vehicles, careless driving and driving with a suspended license. The charges were filed July 29 and issued via summons, which he accepted Aug. 5, court papers state.

Gorritz-Perez was charged after being involved in a crash at North Cedar Street and East Diamond Avenue at about 10:30 p.m., court papers state. He initially gave police a fake name but an insurance card found in his pocket gave the investigating officer his correct identity, court papers state. Gorritz-Perez appeared intoxicated at the crash site, police wrote, and a blood test later showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.204 percent.

Man charged with multiple assaults

A Freeland man was charged following a domestic assault Aug. 4.

Emanual Linijak, 43, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment by Freeland police and jailed after being unable to post $25,000 bail set Aug. 4 by Magisterial District Judge Daniel O'Donnell, Sugarloaf.

During a preliminary hearing Monday, however, police withdrew some of those charges and Linijak pleaded guilty to a harassment, a summary offense, and simple assault, a third-degree misdemeanor.

Arrest papers state officers were asked to investigate a fight that happened at 800 Washington St., Apt. 2, and when they arrived heard screaming coming from the unit.

The female victim had marks on her neck and a scratch mark on her chest from a fork along with a bruise on her right eye and her fingers were also cut and bleeding, police said.

Linijak denied knowing how the injuries occurred, court papers state, but while in custody said he scratched her with the fork he had in his hand at the time while eating dinner during the altercation.

Cesar F. Cruz, 49, was charged with criminal mischief and harassment by Weatherly police and arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge Casmir Kosciolek, Lansford, who set bail at $2,500. Unable to immediately post the money, he was taken to jail, according to a court docket, and awaits a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko, Weatherly.

Cruz, according to court papers, is accused of putting sugar in the victim's car, causing estimated damages totaling $6,898.65 and then threatening the victim to not press charges.

As police investigated they found a man was seen under the victim's vehicle while she was working at Weatherwood, 1000 Evergreen Ave., arrest papers state, with white gloves on his hands on June 26, putting something into the engine. The victim ended up taking her vehicle to a repair garage that said someone put sugar into the vehicle, causing the engine to malfunction, police wrote.

The victim told police Cruz was calling her, harassing her and leaving messages about her not pressing charges and that he would pay for damages, court papers state. He allegedly also told her that if she didn't return his phone call, police wrote, he would find the witness. Cruz refused to be interviewed by police.

McAdoo man faces 2 DUI charges

A McAdoo man accused of crashing a pickup truck on Interstate 81 in Hazle Township on July 19 was charged with driving under the influence.

Ronald W. Kester, 53, McAdoo, faces two counts DUI, one count each reckless driving and careless driving, along with four summary violations by state police at Hazleton.

The charges were filed July 31 and issued via summons which was accepted Aug. 5, according to court papers.

Troopers said it was about 12:19 a.m. when they were dispatched to a crash on I-81 north at mile marker 143.6. Court papers state, troopers found a truck was driven north, traveled off the road and into a ditch before driving back onto the road where it was stopped. The vehicle had minor damage to its front bumper and two flat tires.
