PCI Says Insurers are Committed to Prompt Response for Sandy Insurance Claims

ALBANY, N.Y., Nov. 29 -- The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America issued the following news release:

The following statement regarding Governor Cuomo directing the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to issue new regulations that expedite Sandy-related insurance claims and publish online report cards can be attributed to Kristina Baldwin, assistant vice president for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI).

"The insurance industry, Governor Cuomo and the Department of Financial Services (DFS) share the same goal of helping consumers affected by Sandy recover. No one takes their role of helping customers more seriously than insurers.

"For many people, the storm is not over and it continues to have a major day-to-day impact. Our companies have committed significant resources to help their customers during these difficult times, including sending mobile claims offices into the storm impacted neighborhoods to help expedite claims. The claims professionals and adjusters for all of our members are working extraordinary hours to help every one of their customers in need, even in some cases as they deal with the storm's impact on their own families.

"Our members will continue to devote significant resources to help customers understand the coverage they opted for when picking a policy, and to get them the funds they are due as quickly as possible. Based on Department of Financial Services' figures, the industry has already received nearly 330,000 claims and with only 0.23% complaints. We are fully committed to helping consumers and the communities affected by Sandy rebound from this natural disaster."
