Nov. 07--Man charged after I-81 accident

Virginia State Police responded to an accident late Wednesday morning, as a tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the road, hit the guardrail and overturned. On impact, the trailer ruptured and its cargo of picture frames, potpourri and other items spilled out. The incident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81, at mile marker 223 in Augusta County. Work crews spent until the afternoon hours containing and cleaning up leaking diesel fuel.

The driver, Pavel Gushtyuk, 33 of Tennessee, suffered minor injuries at the crash and was treated at the scene. He now faces reckless driving charges.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Waynesboro Applebee's says thanks to veterans

On Monday, Nov. 11, the Waynesboro Applebee's, along with the chain's other restaurants across the country, will offer a free meal to veterans, as well as all active duty military officers. The Waynesboro restaurant is located at 900 Lew Dewitt Boulevard.

Presbyterian Church holds craft show

Waynesboro's First Presbyterian Church will hold a Fall Craft and Vendor Show on Saturday, Nov. 9. The event, which will be held in the church's fellowship hall at 249 South Wayne Avenue, will take place from 9am until 2pm. For more information, call (540)-949-8366 or [email protected].

Blue Ridge plans first resource fair for seniors

Blue Ridge Community College will host its first Aging in Place Resource Fair on Saturday, Nov. 16. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Plecker Workforce Center on the Weyers Cave campus.

Seniors can learn about things like reverse mortgages, health care, building accessibility, elder law, retirement planning, assisted living, and more, who will be available to provide information about their goods and services.

Grave marking ceremony set for Saturday

The Augusta Parish Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will have a grave marking ceremony for Sarah Haught. Sarah was the second wife of Revolutionary War Soldier, Peter Haught, who served as a private working as an Indian Spy under Captains Catt and John Minor. The ceremony will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the old Western State Cemetery, located off Richmond Road behind the current Villages at Staunton. There will be a reception at Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1019 Richmond Ave, Staunton, immediately after the ceremony.
