New Jersey Insurance Company Plymouth Rock Assurance Offering Hurricane Sandy Forgiveness

PR Newswire Association LLC

RED BANK, N.J., Dec. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Plymouth Rock Assurance has announced that it will waive all auto comprehensive insurance claims due to Hurricane Sandy for existing customers and new customers. Under the company's new program called Sandy Forgiveness, these claims will not be factored into the rating algorithms used by Plymouth Rock Assurance and Plymouth Rock Assurance — Teachers' Insurance Plan of NJ.

"Perhaps we're biased being a New Jersey company and witnessing the devastation caused by Sandy firsthand, but we couldn't imagine adding insult to injury by charging customers a higher rate if they have submitted a Sandy-related comprehensive auto claim," said Gerry Wilson, President and CEO of Plymouth Rock Management Company of New Jersey. "We will not be penalizing New Jersey residents affected by Superstorm Sandy if they file these claims and hope that other insurance carriers consider doing the same."

Hurricane Sandy made history in late October as one of the strongest storms to ever hit NJ. According to the National Hurricane Center, wind gusts reached 90 miles per hour when the storm first made landfall five miles southwest of Atlantic City. The storm is estimated to have claimed the lives of at least 24 people in the State. The Wall Street Journal estimates that Superstorm Sandy caused at least $20 billion of damage across the Atlantic Coast.

"We know how difficult these past several weeks have been and the last thing we want is to create further difficulties for those who were hurt most by this unprecedented storm," added Wilson. "Sandy Forgiveness is just the right thing to do. Period."

Sandy Forgiveness applies to comprehensive auto insurance claims for losses suffered as a direct result of Hurricane Sandy between October 28, 2012 and October 31, 2012. Current customers will automatically benefit from the waiver without any action required. Plymouth Rock is inviting non-customers to get a Sandy Forgiveness quote at PlymouthRockNJ.com/SandyForgiveness.
