HOPE Fund

Members of the HOPE Fund steering committee of the Wayne County Common Good met Oct. 12 in Smithville. The committee approved a new initiative from Wayne College for Emergency Text Book Loans for degree-seeking students. The HOPE Fund currently provides GED test scholarships to ABLE students and emergency gas vouchers to adult education students. The committee is accepting applications for new initiatives from Common Good members and plans to fund two or more this year. The application and guidelines are at www.hopefundwayne.org.

The next Pay It Forward activity is the Veteran's Day flag route for Rotary Parade of Flags. Volunteers are needed to help put up flags and take them down. To volunteer, contact Lee Peart at 330- 624-7506 or infohopefundwayne.org.

The HOPE Fund (Helping Others Prepare for Employment) is a self- sustaining work and education fund at the Wayne County Community Foundation. It supports the efforts of the Wayne County Common Good to help adults get jobs or better jobs by providing pay-it forward scholarships, grants, and good faith, interest-free loans.

The next meeting is Nov. 9, 6 p.m., at the Smithville Inn.

Wayne County Project 912

At the Wayne County Project 912 meeting on Oct. 10, there was detailed discussion of Issus No. 2 and 13 (the Medway Levy). Candidate for Wayne County Municipal Judge, Dave Todaro, gave a presentation and took questions from the group. Personal future preparedness in participants' personal lives was discussed.

Meetings are held the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

Wooster Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club

When Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club met Oct. 14 with seven tables in play, average was 66.

Players above average were: Tid Besanson and Ann Baumgartner, 89.5; Fran Beyer and Cheryl Backstrum, 83.5; Virginia and Dana Brooks, 73.5; Judi and Roy Gingery, 73; Louise Lanning and Kay Wagner, 71.5; Bonnie Grubaugh and M.J. Toole and Sandy and Dave Schmidt, 69.5 (tie); and Gary Miller and Roger Bucholtz, 67.5.

NAIFA

When Wayne-Holmes NAIFA met Oct. 13 at TJ's Restaurant, John Kinkopf, Ohio State Political Action chairman for Ohio NAIFA, discussed the many benefits of being a member of NAIFA and why all insurance agents and financial advisors should join. Some of the benefits include: sales and prospecting tools, online continuing education, professional programs and series, young advisers programs and preferred providers for many services.

The next Wayne-Holmes NAIFA meeting will be held Nov. 10 at TJ's Restaurant at 11:30 a.m.Robert Fenn and Tom Fortune of the Social Security Administration will be the featured speakers.

Wayne County Writers Guild

The Wayne County Writers Guild met at Wayne Center for the Arts recently. The main topic of discussion was the use of dialogue to enhance a character and the plots. Punctuation was reviewed in regards to comma use, quotation marks, use of dashes and dots for emphasis. Science fiction was analyzed for better ways to interest the reader.

Readers were Cyndi Boyer and Darrell Newton. Hal Fulton read his editorial for comment.
