The program involves dental offices around the country, which collect leftover Halloween candy from children to send to the American troops deployed overseas. Dr. Siegel's office in Chicago encourages children from the city to bring up to three pounds of leftover Halloween Candy to their offices and earn $1 for every pound. The candy collected through this program goes to Operation Gratitude, which is a program run by the California Army National Guard. Operation Gratitude packs and sends the candy to soldiers stationed overseas.
