McAllen Car Accident Lawyer Ken Tummel Discusses Impaired Driving During Football Season

PR Web

McAllen, TX (PRWEB) December 11, 2013

McAllen drunk driving accident attorney Ken Tummel of Tummel & Casso said today that in light of recent statistics released by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), it’s important for all drivers to drink responsibility and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol this football season.

According to the TxDOT (“TxDOT Tackles Impaired Driving During Football Season,” October 24), a new effort has been made to curb drinking and driving on football game days this season. The initiative includes a football-shaped “Fan Van” designed to educate drivers about the consequences of drinking and driving as well as numerous prizes for those who pledge not to drink and drive on game day.

“Drinking and driving is a serious problem in Texas, and statistics prove that alcohol-related car crashes increase dramatically when a professional or collegiate football team is competing. Our firm supports any and all efforts by the Department of Transportation and our law enforcement officials to combat this dangerous practice,” said Tummel, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents.

The TxDOT said that more than 1,600 crashes occurred when a Texas college or professional football team was playing in 2012, leading to a 27 percent increase in alcohol-related fatalities on these days. TxDOT officials said that not only are these crashes limited to fans who attend games, but also tailgaters and fans who are simply visiting a friend’s house for the game.

In response, according to the TxDOT, the “Fan Van” will be deployed to different Texas home games this season, educating fans on the dangers of drinking and driving and offering a number of prizes to those who pledge not to drink and drive this football season. The TxDOT said that prizes include a donated “Man Cave” that includes a 60-inch flat-screen TV and home theater system, a massage chair, a basketball hoop and dart board, a putting mat, a folding poker table and a small vending machine-style cooler. Four others will receive $500Best Buy gift cards, the TxDOT said.

Furthermore, the TxDOT said it planned on backing up this message with a public service announcement campaign that involves radio and TV messages at bars, restaurants, convenience stores, and on mobile ads.

“While the dangers of impaired driving are well-known in Texas, sadly, many football fans opt to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol. It’s important for fans to know that they have options – such as a taxi, public transit, or designating a sober driver – and that drinking and driving can have serious consequences. Drunk driving exponentially increases the risk of involvement in a car accident and could cause fatal injuries,” said Tummel, a drunk driving accident lawyer in McAllen.

Tummel said attorneys can help victims of drunk driving accidents pursue compensation for their losses. A lawyer can help hold the negligent individual accountable and send a message that careless behavior will not be tolerated in Texas.
