Man arrested on drug charge after injury collision
Richmond Register, Ky.
April 04--A driver was arrested on heroin-possession and other charges about 2:45 p.m. Friday after police say he drove away from a collision at the intersection of East Main and Smith Ballard streets and then was involved in a three-vehicle collision at the East Main Street/Estill Avenue intersection.
A witness to the second collision detained John Farthing, 22, of Four Mile Road at the scene until police arrived, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.
Farthing's vehicle struck another in the first collision, causing minor injury, Brock said. However, the injured person did not require ambulance transport.
Farthing proceeded out East Main Street after the first collision, but just after crossing the CSX Railroad tracks, his vehicle collided with two others. A person in one of the vehicles suffered minor injury and was transported to Baptist Health Richmond, the police chief said.
While at the scene, Farthing attempted to dispose of syringes "loaded with heroin," Brock said.
A section of East Main Street was closed for about 30 minutes as police investigated and the injured person was loaded into an ambulance, the chief added.
The Madison County Detention Center's online records show that Farthing was booked on several charges in addition to first-degree controlled substance possession (heroin). They included: leaving the scene of an injury accident and failing to render aid, tampering with physical evidence, drug paraphernalia possession, failure to maintain insurance and no registration plates.
