Worker Ordered to Repay More Than $20K in Restitution

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Llorente SIU announced today the conviction ofMiguel Gonzalez on one count of felony theft involving a workers’ compensation claim in Los Angeles Superior Court. The investigation was spearheaded by Llorente SIU, one of the nation’s leading contract SIU service providers, in effective partnership with the California claim team of SeaBright Insurance Company.

After being laid off from his job, Gonzalez alleged that he had injured his back on the job prior to termination. He claimed the injury was preventing him from obtaining employment. He told examining physicians and testified under oath that he had no pre-existing back injuries and had never been in any prior accidents involving his back.

Subpoenaed records showed that Gonzalez had actually filed several prior workers’ compensation claims and third-party lawsuits alleging back injuries.

Gonzalez was placed on five years of formal felony probation and ordered to pay $21,263 in restitution.
