Children benefit from United Way

Editor:

To the contributors of United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties, THANK YOU! Today's children are this community's future!

On behalf of the parents, children, teachers, staff and volunteers of Learn 'N Play Child Care Center, please know that when you contribute to United Way you are providing the opportunity for children to be cared for, loved and given early childhood education for strong development opportunities now and in the future.

United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties provides funding, through all of you, to help the agencies within its organization. Learn 'N Play is proud and grateful to be one of those agencies.

Learn 'N Play helps parents provide a safe and caring place to entrust their children so that they can work to provide for the children. Thanks to United Way, Learn 'N Play continues to help families and their children.

Through your contributions of support, you provide parental support, family health, back-to-work programs, finance education, counseling, food and clothing, emergency shelter and early childhood education opportunities that are affordable. United Way is united in helping people and families.

From all of us at Learn 'N Play, thank you all for your support and help in the past, today and in the future. Helping United Way helps so many!

Sandra C. Hull, president

Perks 'we the people' are denied

Editor:

Obama's payroll tax cut is a paradox. How can a payroll tax cut through FICA, which funds Social Security, be a stimulus and be fiscally wise? Why is this tax cut the only tax cut that would stimulate the economy?

Creating another funding deficit in a system already bankrupted. Robbing old Peter to pay the same young Peter. Hoping young Peter on the way to being old Peter has 36 children to help refinance Peter's Social Security payroll tax cut, if not rob Paul and his kids! Is this not lunacy in action?

Who's going to make up this lack of funding? The White House has promised, "Social Security will receive every dollar it would have gotten otherwise." Can Social Security stand another IOU?

Remember under the Johnson administration Social Security funds were placed in the general fund allowing politicians to raid it and control it as a "slush fund."

Vice President Al Gore cast the tie breaking vote to tax Social Security. Can one believe a politician's promise, especially a liberal Democrat, to refund a system they broke? Charles Ponzi, call the office and reassure the useful idiots Social Security is insurance and not simply a tax.

If I may be so bold to offer this as an alternative. Since government wants to raid into a benefit packages, why not the federal government's retirement package? In the private sector's world the federal's health, pensions and pay exceed what would be considered normal in the private sector, in the Obamacare health debate these excesses would be labeled "Cadillac systems."

Surely the public servants would be willing to redistribute their benefits to their comrades in the private sectors until parity and stimulus has been achieved.

Here is my bonus tax idea. If taxing the wealthiest among us is prudent and just, taxing the generational heirs of tax sheltered trust should be well accepted.

For example, the Rockefellers, Heinz's, Kennedys and most of the Martha Vineyard crowd have various trusts that pay less tax than Warren Buffets' secretary. Surely the grandkids and great grandkids of these trusts would agree the excessive capitalism that allowed these trusts to be funded should be corrected by windfall surtax.

The only problem with this idea is most of the Democrat elites are trust babies. The rhetorical question is, Why does Congress get special perks, tax treatments that their bosses, "We the people" are denied?
