Laser Mole Removal: Dr Sam Speron Says A New Year Brings New Technologies

PR Web

Park Ridge, IL (PRWEB) January 10, 2012

Dr Sam Speron touts that laser treatments have been heavily on the rise for the past decade and could be used for several different procedures. A popular treatment for laser technology is pigmented lesion (mole) removal. A pigmented lesion can be identified as a raised or flat spot on the skin that is brownish, red, blue-black or tan in color. This could appear as a mole, freckle, skin tag, sun/aging spot or birthmark. The New Year has brought us continued imporvement in existing laser mole removal technologies that make the procedure even more effective and much safer.

The process of laser mole removal consists of the laser targeting that specific area with laser light energy. The light energy is absorbed by the pigmented lesion which results in the pigment being broken up. After the pigment is broken up, it is then absorbed by the body through the healing process. Repeat treatments are usually required for full removal of the lesion. Usually, 3-5 treatments are required.

“We have been doing laser mole removals for over 12 years now and the laser technologies continue to improve each year” says Dr. Sam Speron, Chicago laser mole removal expert and consumer advocate. “Almost anyone can benefit from a laser mole removal procedure. However, it is important to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon beforehand in order to make sure the mole is not suspicious or actually a skin cancer. I have seen patients referred from elsewhere that were undergoing laser treatments when in fact the lesion was a skin cancer and needed to be excised! Usually insurance covers consultations for lesions of all sorts, whether they are benign or malignant so it is always safer to visit a doctor when in doubt.”

A simple method in evaluating whether a mole is suspicious or not is the ABCDE method. The letter “A” represents asymmetry and looks to make sure that both halves of the mole are equal. The letter “B” stresses the importance of the border of the mole and that it should not be oddly shaped or irregular. The letter “C” stands for color meaning the mole should not be a variation of different colors or especially dark. The letter “D” reminds us that the diameter should not be any larger than 6mm or roughly the size of an eraser tip. Finally, the letter “E” stands for evolution which means that the mole is suspicious if it has changed in shape, size or color over time.

Dr. Speron is the founder and medical director of Dr. Speron Plastic Surgery, SC. He is board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery and an active member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).
