Inspector General CIO and Two Leading Federal CISOs Join (ISC)2® Board of U.S. Government Advisors

(ISC)2® (“ISC)-squared”), the world’s largest information security professional body and administrators of the CISSP®, today announced it has appointed three new members to its U.S. Government Advisory Board (GAB). They are as follows:

   •     Eddie Saffarinia, CISSP, CSSLP, CGEIT, CRISC, CISA, assistant inspector general for information technology (IT) and chief information officer (CIO) for the Office of Inspector General (OIG) at Department of the Interior (DOI). Mr. Saffarinia is responsible for overall management of the IT program at the OIG and for overseeing evaluations of the DOI’s IT and information security programs. He manages a diverse staff of technical and administrative personnel and administers the OIG’s IT budget, approves strategy and establishes its IT goals.
   •     Brent Conran, CISSP, CISM, CISA, chief information security officer (CISO) for the U.S. House of Representatives. Mr. Conran manages the enterprise-wide information security operation, which is responsible for technology risk management, information protection and security assurance for the House of Representatives. In this capacity, Mr. Conran directs the overall security technology efforts, including developing the information security strategic plan and maintaining oversight of the technical architecture.
   •     Leo F. Scanlon, CISSP, director, IT security staff and CISO for the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). In addition to Mr. Scanlon’s CISO duties, he serves as a NARA observer to the Committee on National Security Systems and participates in the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative (CNCI) Working Group, the Information Security Identity Management Committee (ISIMC) of the CIO Council and the Cloud Computing and Configuration Management Working Group subcommittees of the ISIMC.

The three federal executives will serve with (ISC)2’s elite group of other volunteer advisors from the U.S. public sector and industry organizations. The board provides insight and advice to the (ISC)2 executive management team on government policies and programs that affect the information security profession, as well as certifications for U.S. cyber security professionals, and sponsors community outreach initiatives such as the (ISC)2 Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLAs) and the (ISC)2 U.S. Government Advisory Board Executive Writers Bureau (GAB EWB).

Established in 2003, the (ISC)2 GAB is one of several (ISC)2 advisory boards representing information security professionals worldwide. Other boards advise on information security workforce issues specific to the Americas, European and Asia-Pacific regions.
