Indians topple AAA champs HIGH SCHOOLS [The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg, Va.]
Aug. 27--Stafford's field hockey team scored goals in each half and posted a 2-0 win yesterday against three-time defending state champion Frank W. Cox at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
Lindsay Lysher and Kathleen Gayle had the Indians' goals, off assists from Carley Sullivan and Taylor Bailey.
Brooke Scruggs was in goal for the shutout for Stafford (1-0), which opens district play Tuesday in a home game against Riverbend.
COX 1, MOUNTAIN VIEW 0 MOUNTAIN VIEW 2, FIRST COLONIAL 1
The Wildcats split a pair of nondistrict games at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach.
Mountain View fell to Frank W. Cox in the opener by a lone goal. Sabrina Hill had 10 saves in goal.
In the second game, the Wildcats used goals from Bailee Hubert and Lexi Plutt to topple the Patriots. Hubert and Tyler Argento had assists and Hill recorded 17 saves.
Mountain View (1-1) travels to North Stafford Tuesday at 3 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL
Brooke Point 3, Freedom 0
Valeria Giberti had 20 digs and nine aces to help visiting Brooke Point get a 25-18, 25-9, 25-23 nondistrict win last night.
Megan Curran added five aces, four kills and four blocks, and Rachel Jacobsen provided eight kills for the Black-Hawks (1-1), who visit Stafford next Thursday.
North Stafford 3, Gar-Field 0
Brooke Bochonok had 14 kills and five aces and Kendall Jones doled out 25 assists for North Stafford in its 25-12, 25-21, 25-16 nondistrict win.
Also playing well for the Wolverines (3-0) were Katrina Houston with eight kills, Tiffany Barrett with five kills and five aces, Najah House with four blocks and three kills and Stephanie Pitt with three aces.
North Stafford visits Potomac on Monday.
Louisa 3, Spotsylvania 0
Emily Hoge had eight kills, two blocks and two aces for visiting Spotsylvania, but Louisa was able to get a 25-15, 25-8, 25-20 nondistrict win last night.
Allyson Sharpe provided eight assists and an ace, Crystal Iden chipped in 10 digs and Bria Carter supplied three blocks for the Knights (0-2), who entertain Fluvanna on Monday.
Courtland 3, Orange 0
Dani Cooper had eight assists, six digs and four kills to help Courtland get a 25-12, 25-9, 25-23 nondistrict win last night.
Dakota White totaled eight assist and Emily Jordan slammed seven kills for the Cougars (2-0), who travel to Riverbend on Tuesday.
C.D. Hylton 3, stafford 1
The Indians lost to the Bulldogs in a nondistrict match. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 22-25, 25-16.
Katelyn Gudyka led Stafford with 12 assists and eight kills. Victoria Kitchens contributed seven kills and a block while LaRae Willis added four kills.
Stafford (1-2) will host Gar-Field Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Massaponax 3, FCS 0
Chandler Uhlick had nine assists and eight aces in visiting Massaponax's 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 nondistrict win against Fredericksburg Christian last night.
Brianne Strother added 10 kills and three aces, and Rachel Tighe provided four kills and four aces for the Panthers (1-1), who visit Mountain View next Thursday.
Moriah Sedlak had six kills for the Eagles (0-1), who are off until Sept. 11 when they host the FCS Invitational.
