Grantham University Honors 1,641 Graduates at 2011 Commencement Ceremony in Kansas City

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) August 08, 2011

Grantham University, a 60-year-old institution delivering accredited online degrees to working adult students around the world, hosted its annual Commencement Ceremony honoring the Class of 2011 on Saturday, August 6, in Kansas City, Missouri. The ceremony and reception were held in the Kansas City Convention Center’s Grand Ballroom.

175 graduates from around the country traveled to Kansas City to walk across the stage and be recognized for their hard work and dedication to furthering their education. The ceremony included remarks from several notables, including Dr. Herbert London, president of the Grantham University Board of Governors, Dr. Mark Skousen, honorary dean of Grantham University’s Mark Skousen School of Business, and graduate, Michael Constantine, the Class of 2011 speaker.

“Commencement is a special time for our graduates and their families, and it’s also a unique opportunity for our graduates to meet the faculty and staff they’ve worked with virtually throughout their time at Grantham,” said Dr. Fredrick Snow, president of Grantham University. “Our faculty and staff do a tremendous job getting to know our students and motivating and supporting them throughout their degree program. Meeting students face-to-face just adds to the celebratory atmosphere surrounding Commencement.”

Dr. London, the Commencement keynote, is president emeritus of Hudson Institute. He is professor emeritus and the former John M. Olin Professor of Humanities at New York University and an affiliated professor at the University of Haifa in Israel. Dr. London was the first recipient of the Peter Shaw Award for his exemplary writing on higher education and American intellectual culture. His perspective on faculty and student issues, as well as curriculum, is especially valuable to Grantham University’s Board of Governors.

Dr. Skousen is a professional economist, investment expert, university professor, and author of more than 25 books. Since 1980, Skousen has been editor in chief of Forecasts & Strategies, a popular award-winning investment newsletter. He has just release a new book, “The Maxims of Wall Street,” which is available now through Eagle Publishing.

Constantine graduated with an MBA in Saturday’s ceremonies. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, he attended Cleveland State University, earning his BA in communication, before coming to Grantham.

He offered these words of wisdom and encouragement to his fellow classmates. “Each one of us has overcome obstacles, whether they be personal, professional or both, along our ascent up the mountain,” said Constantine. “So now, together we stand atop the summit of our personal mountains, all having taken different paths to get here, forever connected as brothers, sisters and graduates of Grantham University.”

Constantine is a senior instructor for American Family Insurance, specializing in training agents and employees. During his time with American Family Insurance he has been instrumental in the curriculum development and delivery of the company’s new agent training program and has helped hundreds of agents develop effective business and sales and marketing plans for their agencies.

Constantine is just one of an outstanding class of Grantham University graduates.

The Class of 2011 features 1,641 students (175 attended Saturday’s ceremonies). More than 80 percent of the class is currently serving or has served in our nation’s armed forces; 42 percent are active duty, guard or reserve; 22 percent are retired military; and 15 percent are veterans.

Grantham University’s accredited online degree programs are flexible and portable, allowing students to fit education into their life instead of arranging life around their education. The University offers a variety of associate, bachelor and master’s online degrees in areas such as Business Administration, Business Intelligence, Business Management, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, Human Resource Management, Information Systems Security, and Medical Coding and Billing.
