Flight Paramedic Is True American Health Care Hero

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., July 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Kyle Luginbyhl's journey to becoming a health care hero began as an American hero.  He served two tours of duty in Iraq and one in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger with the 75th Regiment based at Fort Benning, Georgia.

He received the Purple Heart award for the multiple injuries he sustained and also a Silver Star, the Defense Department's third-highest medal for valor in combat.

When Luginbyhl returned home from the military, he felt compelled to give back, to save lives, so he became a firefighter, working in New Mexico for seven years, which included two years as an Emergency Medical Technician and five years as a paramedic.

Next month, Luginbyhl will receive another award as a finalist in the Phoenix Business Journal's 13^th annual Health Care Heroes awards. A breakfast ceremony will be held at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess on August 21.

He took his duty of saving lives from the ground to the air, becoming a critical care flight paramedic, eventually joining the medical flight team at Angel MedFlight where he makes sure all medical crews have the supplies and equipment necessary to provide the life sustaining and saving care at 40,000 feet in the air. 

Luginbyhl says he has always had "a servant attitude, or personality" and a calling to help people. That characteristic extends beyond his day job.

He also volunteers with the Patriot Guard Riders – a Veteran's Motorcycle Association that aids vets and their families, escorts funeral transports and participates and leads welcome-home parades for returning vets. He is also active with the Wounded Warriors program and lends his time to the Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.

Luginbyhl says he chose to extend his service to health care because of his drive to "go bigger and do better," knowing he can positively affect the lives of those he cares for as a paramedic.
