Fatal fire’s cause may be released [Messenger-Inquirer, Owensboro, Ky.]
Aug. 31--Investigators say the cause of a fire that killed four Owensboro residents in their home Friday will likely be released today.
Wendy Devine, 35; her two children, Ryan Devine, 2, and Jerry Devine, 3; and Wendy Devine's father, Jerry Marsh, whose age wasn't available, were killed Friday morning at 2204 W. Parrish Ave.
Battalion Chief Steve Leonard of the Owensboro Fire Department previously told the Messenger-Inquirer that the fire's point of origin appears to have been a large chair near the rear door, and the fire may have been smoking-related.
Ryan E. Devine, Wendy Devine's husband, was not home at the time of the fire.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, with burial to follow in Rosehill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Area residents are in the process of planning fundraisers for the family.
The Devine and Marsh Benefit is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sam's Club on South Frederica Street.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and baked goods will be available. A silent auction is from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be facepainting for the kids.
Residents interested in donating new items for the auction can call 688-5886.
According to the Support the Devine Family Facebook group, residents can drop off tangible donations, such as clothing, for Ryan E. Devine at any Owensboro Fire Department.
He wears extra-large shirts, 30x32 pants and size 11 shoes.
Monetary donations can be made to the Devine Family Memorial Fund at any US Bank location.
