Coverage available to Nebraskans in 10 counties

OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Coventry Health Care of Nebraska, Inc. today announced it was selected to offer a new health plan choice for Nebraska’s 90,000 Medicaid managed care recipients beginning August 1, 2010. A proven Medicaid managed care contractor in seven other states serving over 400,000 members, Coventry will cover Medicaid beneficiaries for the first time in Nebraska. The State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) recently announced the award.

“We understand every individual and family has unique medical requirements and needs access to quality health care,” said Charlie Stark, CEO of Coventry Health Care of Nebraska. “Coventry makes it a priority to offer comprehensive Medicaid benefits, care management and health education that help members get, and stay, healthy.”

Coventry provides dedicated Medicaid customer service representatives specially trained to answer member questions. Medical transportation and translation services are available to all members. Additional benefits include adult flu shots, disease management programs, Lamaze classes, Doc Bear Club and the Healthy Mom, Happy Baby program. No referrals are required.

“Coventry is pleased to serve the Medicaid needs of thousands of Nebraskans,” said Barb Witte, Chief Operating Officer for Coventry Health Care of Nebraska. “Coventry’s member-focused initiatives, including our unique kids’ programs, help educate families about getting good health care at the right place, at the right time. We make health care approachable and understandable.”

Coventry Health Care of Nebraska will offer Medicaid managed care in a total of ten counties: Douglas, Lancaster, Cass, Dodge, Gage, Otoe, Sarpy, Saunders, Seward and Washington. Over 20 hospitals and 6,300 physicians have signed on with Coventry’s Nebraska network to date. Open enrollment begins in July.
