Compare The Ambassadors – Potential Applicants Face Public Vote for Meerkat Ambassador Role

A Cornish surfer, a Cambridge graduate, a former Navy officer and a supermarket supervisor are among the final six candidates who have been shortlisted for one of the UK’s most sought-after and unusual roles currently on the market - the UK’s first-ever human Ambassador for Russian entrepreneur and best-selling author Aleksandr Orlov (founder of comparethemeerkat.com).

The final choice is now down to the British public as the shortlisted six go-head-to-head in their quest to persuade people that they are the right human for the position. To win, each finalist will now conduct their own mini-election campaign in an attempt to raise their profile and secure votes.

Nearly 1,500 applications were received for the position of Meerkovo Ambassador, representing the hometown of comparethemeerkat.com founder, Aleksandr Orlov, here in the UK. The role will pay £40,000* (gross) for a six month contract and will involve highlighting the plight of the Meerkovo villagers at some of the nation’s top sporting and cultural events this summer.

The candidates in the final running are:

   •      Clemi Hardie, surfer and social media expert (Cornwall)

   •      Philippa Dunjay, English Literature graduate from Cambridge University (Surrey)

   •      Narinder Singh, a digital entrepreneur and media and marketing graduate (West Midlands)

   •      Matthew Sorrell, part-time stand up comedian currently working as a nightshift supervisor for a leading supermarket chain (Yorkshire)

   •      Josh Mitchell, an international hospitality student from UWIC University in Cardiff (South Glamorgan)

   •      Chris Drury, a family man who has had a varied career working in the Royal Navy, sales and marketing and recruitment (Derbyshire)

The budding meerkat representatives, who posted home-made YouTube videos and tweeted in their bid to become the first-ever meerkat Ambassador, were whittled down to a long-list of 22 and attended an intensive interview process in London, before being shortlisted to the final six.
