Cohen & Malad, LLP, Attorneys Speak with Patients Who Have Come Forward with Unnecessary Surgery Claims

PR Web

Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) May 23, 2014

Dr. Scott Kaufman, an electrophyisologist who practices in northwest Indiana, spoke with attorneys from Cohen & Malad, LLP, Theodoros & Rooth, P.C., and the Law Office of Paul A. Rossi, LLC, about allegations involving unnecessary surgery and improper credentialing of Dr. Arvind Gandhi, a cardiologist practicing in Munster, Indiana. Dr. Kaufman stated that he believes there are at least five cardiologists in the Munster area who lack the proper training and certification as set forth by the Heart Rhythm Society, an organization that promotes education and advocacy for heart surgeons and patients, to perform defibrillator implants.

Dr. Kaufman shared that the guidelines for training and certification indicate that only if an area is underserved by electrophysiologists would there be a need to train cardiologists to perform these surgeries. He stated there is no shortage of qualified electrophysiologists in northwest Indiana. "While Community Hospital has stated that the federal lawsuit was settled years ago and that these allegations are 'old news', Dr. Kaufman's statement begs the question why the hospital has not taken any action with cardiologists about this credentialing issue," said Paul Rossi of the Law Office of Paul A. Rossi, LLC.

Attorneys from Cohen & Malad, LLP, Theodoros & Rooth, P.C., and the Law Office of Paul A. Rossi, LLP have filed medical malpractice lawsuits on behalf of Raymond Kammer (Lake Circuit Superior Court, Indiana- 45C011404CT0048) and Gloria Sargent (Lake Circuit Superior Court, Indiana- 45C011404CT0049).

Since news of two medical malpractice lawsuits filed against Dr. Gandhi were shared in early May, attorneys from Cohen & Malad, LLP, Theodoros & Rooth, P.C., and the Law Office of Paul A. Rossi, LLC have talked with other concerned patients and have begun evaluating similar claims of unnecessary heart defibrillator surgeries.
