Belleville News-Democrat
By Belleville News-Democrat
McClatchy-Tribune Information Services

Sept. 05--With several close points races still to be decided, the racing action should be hot and heavy Friday at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville.

Along with all the usual classes running, Belle-Clair will also be host to the Gateway Vintage Cars, restored stock cars from the past.

Only 35 points separates UMP Late Model drivers Rick Salter (878), Mike Schulte (864) and Mike Hammerle (843) atop their division.

Pure Stocks is another close race, with Marc McClintock (900) leading Trevor Isaak (846).

Last Friday's feature winners were Randy Korte (UMP Late Models), Tyler Delbert (UMP Modifieds), Joe B. Miller (Boss Chassis Micro) and Rob Shaw (Pro 4 Stocks).

POWRi at Belle-Clair Speedway

POWRi open-wheel racing's final visit to Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville this season is for the Meents Memorial race on Sunday/

Since its inception in 2005, the Meents Memorial is an event that both fans and drivers look forward to all season. Recent winners of the Charlene Meents Memorial include Zach Daum in 2013, Austin Brown in 2012 and Brett Anderson in 2011.

The event is held in honor of former Midwest Auto Racing Association President Charlene Meents. During her years with MARA, Meents was instrumental in keeping midget racing alive in the Midwest, especially the St. Louis area. She also played an important role in maintaining MARA's presence in some of the country's largest and most notable races, including the Belleville Nationals and the Chili Bowl Nationals.

Along with her friends and family, the Charlene Meents Memorial keeps her racing legacy alive.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. General admission is $15 and children 12-under are free.

Highland Speedway

Saturday is Daum Insurance Championship Night and Bicycle Blowout at Highland Speedway, with a full racing card planned. Grandstands open at 5:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
