California Document Management and Document Conversion Company, BMI Imaging Systems, Complies with Federal-Level Security Measures

PR Web

Sunnyvale, California (PRWEB) September 30, 2013

BMI Imaging Systems, Inc. (BMI), a leader in secure document conversion services and document management solutions, today announced that its Sunnyvale, California document conversion facility has been officially notified that it is in compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication (NIST SP) 800-53 guidelines.

Bill Whitney, President of BMI states, “As we continue to work with organizations in the Healthcare, Energy and Federal Government verticals, we have strengthened the security of our document conversion facilities. We are pleased to have augmented our facilities with new video monitoring equipment, physical portal upgrade points and encrypted FOBs. Employees handling secure information go through mandated Department of Justice background checks.”

The Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) recognized the importance of information security and assigns specific responsibilities to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in order to strengthen information system security and reduce risks to an acceptable level. NIST Special Publication 800-53, "Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations", provides guidelines for selecting and specifying security controls for information systems. It covers 17 areas in the Risk Management Framework that address security control selection for federal information systems in accordance with the security requirements in Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 200. The guidelines apply to all components of an information system that process, store or transmit federal information.

By implementing security controls described in NIST SP 800-53, BMI’s primary document conversion facility has demonstrated the compliance capabilities necessary to handle confidential records associated with Government (Federal, State, Local), Healthcare and Energy industries.

BMI’s security enhancements include 24/7 external video monitoring equipment, internal noise-detection break-in monitors, reinforced physical barriers and encrypted fob access for designated personnel, restricting areas also within the facility. Background checks are mandatory for all individuals handling confidential information. Updated, documented compliance processes and disaster recovery procedures are part of the requirements.
