Business desk’s new hire [Albuquerque Journal, N.M.]

June 18--The Albuquerque Journal has hired Kevin Robinson-Avila, a veteran New Mexico journalist with three decades of experience, for its business desk.

Specifically, he will be the lead reporter on energy issues, technology, venture capital and the Public Regulation Commission. Most recently he was the technology, venture capital and energy issues reporter for the New Mexico Business Weekly.

Robinson-Avila began his journalism career in Central America in 1983, where he worked for nine years as a foreign correspondent. He was economic affairs editor, and later editor, from 1992-1998 at the University of New Mexico's Latin American Data Base.

He served as a staff reporter at the Business Weekly from 1998-2000, then worked as assistant editor for New Mexico State University'sAgricultural and University Communications. He returned to the Business Weekly in 2006 as a senior reporter.

The Journal business desk also has reorganized to expand its technology, health care, residential real estate and banking coverage.

Reporter Winthrop Quigley, who covers health care, economics, taxation and economic development issues, will become the lead reporter on issues and stories coming of the state Insurance Division, within the Public Regulation Commission. Quigley also will take a regular look at banking issues in New Mexico.

Former PRC, technology and economic development reporter Mike Hartrnaft has assumed the role of assistant business editor. He also will assume the duties of the Money page that runs in the Sunday Journal.
