PPL PPL Corp to sell certain non-core generating asssets to LS Power Equity Advisors for ~$381 mln in cash (27.26 +0.17)

Co announces it has reached agreement to sell interests in certain non-core generating stations to LS Power Equity Advisors, an affiliate of LS Power. The transaction will include the 244-megawatt PPL Wallingford Energy plant, a natural gas-fired facility located in the Town of Wallingford, Conn.; the 585-megawatt PPL University Park plant, a natural gas-fired facility located in University Park, Ill.; and PPL's one-third share in Safe Harbor Water Power Corporation, owner of the 421-megawatt Safe Harbor Hydroelectric Station on the Susquehanna River in Conestoga, Pa. The transaction, for ~$381 mln in cash, is expected to close in 4Q10. The transaction is expected to result in an after-tax special item charge against PPL's third-quarter earnings of $65-80 mln.

The IYZ reached 20.76 in early Jan, 20.73 in Apr and 20.77 in early Aug. The IYZ has steadily outperformed the S&P since May and had been flirting with these 52-wk highs for over the last several days but the best it had done prior to today was close 0.05 above. The gap up start created a more concerted short term breakout attempt with it reaching 21.00. REGN Regeneron Pharms and Sanofi-aventis (SNY) report phase 3 trial of aflibercept in second-line metastatic colorectal cancer to continue as planned (24.42 +0.03)

The cos announced that the Phase 3 VELOUR clinical trial of aflibercept (VEGF Trap) in patients with metastatic colorectal cancerwill continue to completion as planned, with no modifications due to efficacy or safety concerns. This decision is based on the recommendation of an Independent Data Monitoring Committee following a planned interim analysis. Both sanofi-aventis and Regeneron management and staff remain blinded to the interim study results. Final results are expected 2H 2011.

Co announces it has been awarded several contracts totaling $4.9 mln over a one-year period, supporting the U.S. Air Force, the Defense Technology Security Administration, and other State government and commercial accounts. Co also announces that it has signed a settlement with the former principal owners of Advanced Technology Systems, Inc. related to a previously disclosed indemnification claim associated with the Maximus lawsuit. As a result, co received a settlement payment of $1.25 mln. This concludes all outstanding legal proceedings.
