BRIEF: Tabor City woman gets life sentence for killing husband and his son

June 13--CONWAY, S.C. -A Tabor City woman was sentenced to two life terms for the slayings of her elderly husband and his son, court officials said Friday.

Sandy Lee Locklear, 42, was found guilty of both murders after a two-week trial. Jurors deliberated for about three hours before reaching the verdict late Thursday. Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Culbertson sentenced her.

Prosecutors described the Aug. 19, 2012, shootings of Amos Hatfield, 66, and his son Thomas Howard Hatfield, 40, as contract killings. Locklear plotted their deaths to collect insurance money.

Odom Bryan Bryant, 24, of Tabor City, and Nehemiah James Evans, 29, of Nichols, also are charged with two counts of murder and first-degree burglary. Both are awaiting trial.

According to authorities, Locklear called 911 about 4:30 a.m. and told police she had been sexually assaulted during a home invasion that ended with the murders of her husband and his son.

At the time, Locklear had been living in a home Amos Hatfield purchased for her on Fair Bluff Road in Tabor City.
