BRIEF: Sacramento’s Superior Vision Services merges with Maryland firm [The Sacramento Bee]

July 16--Superior Vision Services Inc., a Rancho Cordova eye-care insurer employing about 80 locally, today announced that it was combining its business with a Maryland company.

Superior said it will merge with Block Vision, headquartered in Linthicum, Md. Block is a specialty health benefits company that manages all levels of vision and eye care benefits.

Together, Superior Vision and Block Vision will offer vision benefit and medical eye care programs to employer groups, health plans and consumers.

No details were released on the possibility of a new company name or establishment of a headquarters.

"The combination of Superior Vision and Block Vision brings together two vision benefit industry leaders with a history of strength in their target segments," said Kirk Rothrock, Superior's president.

The combined company will provide vision benefit plans to more than 8.5 million members nationwide, encompassing an overall provider network of more than 55,000.

Officials said the two companies will combine management forces. No financial details of the move were disclosed.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed within the next few months.
