Assurant Solutions Mobile Services Releases Multinational Consumer Survey on Protection and the Mobile Wallet

ATLANTA, Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Assurant Solutions, a global specialty insurance and risk management company, today announces the results of its latest consumer survey on mobile trends. The survey reveals a strong connection between willingness to engage in mobile financial transactions and whether protection options are offered. Mobile financial transactions include in-store purchases, online banking, bill payments and online purchases, among others.

"When it comes to financial transactions, consumers remain wary about opening their mobile wallet," said Martin Jenns, Senior Vice President and Head of Strategy Development for Assurant Solutions Mobile Services. "Adoption remains low among the countries we surveyed, as the majority of consumers expressed serious security concerns."

Assurant Solutions conducted an omnibus study of 1,000 mobile phone users in each of the following countries: Spain, Argentina, Germany, China and the United States. Responses revealed that consumers across all five markets are worried about exposing bank account details, identity and password theft, and vulnerability of personal data connected with their mobile devices.

"When it comes to their wallets, protection matters. Consumers expressed an exponentially higher interest in mobile transactions if secure protection products were an option," said Jenns. "Additional protection for devices and data will play a key part in unlocking the potential of the mobile wallet."
