Area Roundup: Enterprise track and field wins dual meet with Shasta

April 24--Enterprise High's boys and girls track and field teams beat Shasta in a dual meet Wednesday. The Hornet boys won 92-45 and the girls won 82-52.

For the boys, the Hornets had 10 event winners. Zayd Morton won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.9 seconds and the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 8 inches, Anthony Rodriguez won the 100 (11.3) and 400 (54.7), Colton Deaver won the 800 (2:07), Dom Stewart won the 300 hurdles (41.9) and the long jump (18-6.5), Robert Baker won the triple jump (40-5) and Casey Gunter won the discus (143-2).

Shasta had the top three finishes in both the 1,600 boys race and the 3,200 as Landon Woollard, Josh Bland and Riley Davis all ran sub-4:45. Zane Ventimiglia won the shot put (53-1), Joe Richmond won the pole vault (10-6).

For the girls, Enterprise won eight events as Rachel Martin won the 100 hurdles (17.5), Patti Dionicio won the 400 (1:06.6), Kamira Sanders won the 100 (13.1), Sydney Pruett won the 800 (2:34.3), Changelle Borges won the long jump (16-5) and triple jump (34-5), Taylor Keener won the high jump (4-8) and Serena Parker won the discus (87-2).

Shasta's Hannah Davis won both the 1,600 (5:37) and the 3,200. She cruised to an easy 5:37 win in the 1600, followed by Miranda Avalos with a 5:43. Maddy Ross won both the 200 (27.4) and the 300 hurdles (46.6), Claire Walton won the shot put (32-1) and Sage Milestone won the pole vault (7-6).

PREP SOFTBALL

Redding Christian 10, Chester 0 (6)

The Lions routed the Volcanoes in a Five-Star League game, led by pitcher Cassie Reeder.

Reeder struck out 14 in the victory, and went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double. Carlie Paradis went 3 for 3 with a home run.

Redding Christian is now 5-0 in the FSL and 11-3 overall.

U-Prep 22, Williams 2 (5)

Nick Schroedle struck out four and was the winning pitcher. Connor Fitzgerald gave up two runs in two innings with three strikeouts and Chris Huebner struck out one in relief.

The Panthers racked up 20 hits in the win as Michael Golden and Schroedle each had two hits and two RBIs. Owen Fitzgerald was 3 for 4, Connor Fitzgerald was 3 for 4, Bradley Cervania was 2 for 2 and Jordan Fletcher went 1 for 2.

U-Prep (16-7) plays at Chester May 1.

Anderson sweeps Yreka 7-4, 8-5

The Cubs swept an away doubleheader Tuesday.

The top hitters for the opener were Chelsey Holley, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Fallon Greenhaw, who was 2 for 4.

In the nightcap, Holley and Greenhaw were each 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Cicily Ragsdale was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Anderson hosts Yreka on Friday.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Anderson Aquagators accepting sign-ups

Signups for the Anderson Aquagators competitive swim team will be May 1, between 5-7 p.m. at West Valley High School.

The cost is $110 for swimmers ages 5 through 8 (plus $46 for insurance), and $150 for swimmers 9-18 years old (plus $46 for insurance).

Practices are offered but swimmers are not required to attend all of them. Practices are at West Valley High School, 5:30-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday from May 5 to June 5, then weekday mornings from 7:45-9:30 a.m. and Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:15-8 p.m. from June 9-Aug. 1.
