AAA Employees Help Build KaBOOM! at Eliza Howell Park in Detroit’s Brightmoor Community

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 120 AAA Michigan employees volunteered their time and "sweat equity" to help build a KaBOOM! playground at the Eliza Howell Park, located in Northwest Detroit's Brightmoor Community, today (August 31, 2011).  They continued AAA's nearly century-long history of volunteering and giving back to the community as they worked with more than 200 volunteers to build the first playground built by KaBOOM! and the Marjorie S. Fisher Fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

Over the past two years, AAA Michigan employees have joined Brightmoor Alliance community volunteers in an ongoing partnership to improve the park.  AAA has officially just "adopted" the Eliza Howell Park and is creating a strategic three-year plan for the park, which provides more than 2,000 children in the Brightmoor neighborhood with a safe place to play.  Prior to the day's construction, children in the neighborhood did not have a safe playground to enjoy within walking distance.

Design for the new playground, located at 14885 Beaverland StreetFisher Fund  purchased the playground materials. AAA Michigan and PNC Bank employees volunteered with community residents to assemble the brightly colored playground equipment during the day-long event.

KaBOOM! is a national non-profit organization dedicated to creating colorful playgrounds for neighborhood children who need a place to play every day in order to be active and healthy.  KaBOOM! has been creating playgrounds for children for 15 years. The Eliza Howell Park playground is one of more than 150 playgrounds KaBOOM! will lead across the country this year.  

AAA's history of community service dates back to 1919, when AAA Michigan established the first School Safety Patrol.  AAA Michigan has also  been working with residents and community leaders in the Brightmoor Community on traffic safety concerns.
