12 companies set to offer health plans on exchange
Buffalo News (NY)
Oct. 15--Twelve companies will offer individual coverage in a qualified health plan through the NY State of Health insurance exchange for 2019, the same number as a year ago, according to the state Department of Health.
The open enrollment period starts Nov. 1 and will continue through Jan. 31. More than 95 percent of enrollees in the state's official health plan marketplace will see no cost increase next year, according to the Health Department.
"As we enter our fifth year, New Yorkers will continue to have affordable health care options available through NY State of Health," said Donna Frescatore, the executive director. "There will again be a great choice of plans at affordable prices."
NY State of Health said it would renew coverage for more than 500,000 households in the state and sign up new people into coverage during the open enrollment period. Those households with current coverage will begin to receive renewal notices later this month and may start renewing Nov. 16. Consumers new to NY State of Health can start enrolling for 2019 coverage on Nov. 1.
NY State of Health's "essential plan" -- for low- income residents who don't qualify for Medicaid -- will be offered at no cost or for $20 per person, per month, depending on income. More than 740,000 people have enrolled in that plan.
