Gov. Heineman Appoints James Stecker of Columbus to District Court, 5th Judicial District

LINCOLN, Neb., Nov. 25 -- Gov. Dave Heineman, R-Neb., issued the following news release:
Gov. Dave Heineman today announced his appointment of James Stecker of Columbus to the District Court, 5th Judicial District.
Stecker has been practicing law for 31 years. His law practice includes work in the County and District Courts handling juvenile, criminal, probate, domestic, civil, real estate and tax matters. Additionally, his practice includes appellate work in the Nebraska Court of Appeals, the Nebraska Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Stecker is a frequent speaker on estate planning, wills and trusts for Columbus City Employees. He serves on the Columbus Public Schools Foundation Board of Directors, Platte County Bar Foundation Board of Directors and is a Mock Trial performance Judge and served as Mock Trial coach for Columbus High School. Stecker earned the Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law.
The vacancy is due to the retirement of Judge Alan G. Gless. The 5th Judicial District consists of Boone, Butler, Colfax, Hamilton, Merrick, Nance, Platte, Polk, Saunders, Seward and York Counties.
