"We are delighted to have JD join our team," said Whited. "In many ways, he has always been with us. He has a distinguished track record in specialty insurance markets creating dynamic reinsurance partnerships. We are confident that both his leadership skills and expertise will result in new avenues to sell and distribute insurance and financial services products that grow our independent agent business."
Prior to his new role, Horwitz served at Guy Carpenter, where he was a member of the Windhaven account team and as a participant on the Worker's Compensation Terrorism Task Force and the Environmental Specialty Practice. He is credited with innovating the "cascading," feature for property catastrophe reinsurance in Florida and enhanced commutation features for worker's compensation reinsurance. Horwitz also served in previous positions at TigerRisk and AonBenfield and its predecessor, EW Blanch.
A Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, Horwitz earned a bachelor's degree in both business administration and accounting from the University of Kansas. The longtime Minnesota resident and purveyor of winter sports will reside in Miami with his wife, Jessica, and three children.
