In a letter Thursday, acting state Comptroller Kevin Walsh threatened to ask the state to withhold funding to the towns— including Hamilton in Mercer County, Piscataway in Middlesex County and West New York in Hudson County— if they continue to disregard efforts to address hefty retirement payouts that have long been under scrutiny in New Jersey.
