Update: Identity of man killed in North Myrtle Beach motorcycle, car crash released

Oct. 21--A male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene in North Myrtle Beach Thursday night after a car crash, and a driver is facing several charges in connection with the crash.

Raye Farrar, 49, of North Myrtle Beach was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Robert Edge, Horry County Coroner, who said an autopsy was being done to document his injuries and determine his exact cause of death.

Authorities responded about 6:30 p.m. to 13th Avenue North and U.S. 17 for a reported motorcycle accident. Officers found the motorcycle operator on the ground in the northbound lanes unresponsive. A Grand Strand Regional Medical Center worker passing by stopped to render aid until medics arrived, according to Pat Dowling, North Myrtle Beach city spokesman.

When medics arrived the victim was pronounced dead on scene, Dowling said.

Witnesses said that the driver of a white Mazda Coupe tried to make a u-turn from lane number 2 in front of the motorcycle who was in the lane number one and this resulted in a crash. Dowling said.

The driver of the Mazda, Donelle Marie Spivey, said she was setting up her GPS when it indicted she should make a u-turn. She said the motorcycle tried to pass her and ran off the road, according to authorities.

Police discovered Spivey, 30, of Charlotte, does not have a valid driver's license and does not have auto insurance, Dowling said. She was charged with driving under suspension, second offense, uninsured vehicle, expired registration, and unlawful lane change.

She was taken into custody and transported to the North Myrtle Beach Jail, Dowling said.
