UCHealth offers new individualized price estimate tool

Dec. 04--UCHealth patients now can find price estimates specific to their own insurance plans on the UCHealth online patient portal, mobile app or call center.

UCHealth can immediately connect with patients' insurance plan and confirm their information, including how much of their deductible and out-of-pocket maximum already has been met, according to a news release. Patients then can select from UCHealth locations and services to compare costs.

Price estimates are available for more than 150 services, including MRIs, CT scans, deliveries, orthopedic surgeries and cataract removal. Doctors' professional fees are not included in estimates due to federal regulations preventing independent providers from sharing their contracted rates with hospitals.

"Businesses and insurance companies have been using high-deductible insurance plans to shift more health care costs onto consumers," said UCHealth Chief Financial Officer Dan Rieber in the release. "This estimates tool gives patients the power to make informed health care choices, and it also can help guide patients as they select an insurance plan that's right for them."

The estimates are available on UCHealth's My Health Connection portal, the UCHealth app, available on the App Store and Google Play, or by calling (877) 349-8520 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, go to http://www.uchealth.org/billing-and-pricing-information.
