Two hurt in seven-car crash near Ridgefield

Jan. 13--Two people were injured on Saturday after a seven-car accident on Interstate 5 near Milepost 12.

According to a media release from the Washington State Patrol, units responded to the Ridgefield crash around 11:45 a.m. One car, a 2005 Dodge Durango driven by 30-year-old Lascarez Santiago, was southbound in the middle lane when he failed to stop for traffic and rear-ended a Mazda CX-3, the release states. The Durango then struck a 2017 Ford Explorer before veering left and hitting a Mazda M3HI, forcing the Mazda into a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. The Santa Fe was pushed into a 2014 Toyota Prius. In the meantime, the Ford Explorer was pushed into a 2007 Mini Cooper while the Mazda M3HI veered off the road and into a cable carrier.

Nobody was seriously injured, according to emergency radio traffic monitored by The Columbian, although four of the seven cars involved were totaled. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, the report notes.

No drugs or alcohol were involved. Santiago was cited for negligent driving and driving without insurance.
