The American Med Spa Association (AmSpa) Adds Two More Safety Plan Templates

PR Web

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 22, 2015

AmSpa Partners With Sorensen, Wilder & Associates and Rockwell Laser Industries to Launch Its Laser Safety Plan Template. The Laser Safety Plan Template helps medical aesthetic facilities, laser centers and medical spas operate safely, and is available to AmSpa members at a 20% discount.

The Laser Safety Plan, a "must have" for any medical spa performing laser procedures, has been created in collaboration with AmSpa's safety and security consulting partner Sorensen, Wilder & Associates and laser safety experts from Rockwell Laser Industries.

According to Safety Training Specialist, Steve Wilder, President and CEO of Sorensen, Wilder & Associates and a board-certified healthcare safety professional with more than 30 years of healthcare risk management experience, "It only takes one OSHA visit to shut your medical spa down. There are critical programs most medical spas are not even aware of that are needed within a medical spa setting to remain OSHA complaint. If a medical spa is found noncompliant, it should expect payment penalties." Most penalties begin at approximately $1,500 per violation; the law allows them to start as high as $7,500 per violation and repeat violations can begin at $75,000.

Medical aesthetic facilities, laser centers and medical spas are required to provide maximum safety for patients and personnel during the use of various laser devices. Because of this, the safety policies and procedures included in the Laser Safety Plan Template reflect a collective gathering from various sources including: manufacturers; the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA); the Center for Devices & Radiological Health (CDRH); and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); as well as state laws and regulations; medical, nursing and cosmetology licensing boards; professional organizations and recommended standards of practice, such as the American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care (ANSI Z136.3 – 2011 version).

The purpose of the Laser Safety Plan Template is to help facilities work in a consistently safe manner for compliance and to encourage a safe experience for both patients and employees during the use of laser devices. The template is regularly $249 and a 20% discount is available to AmSpa members only. If you are an AmSpa member and are interested in receiving the discount, please contact Gina Meyer-Shaffer at gshaffer(at)americanmedspa(dot)org to receive the promo code.

Workplace / Domestic Violence in Healthcare is at Epidemic Levels
The Department of Labor ranks healthcare as the number one industry for workplace violence. And, while no formal standards exist, OSHA Guideline 3148 (Guideline for Workplace Violence Prevention in Healthcare and Social Services) has been enforced against healthcare facilities under Section 5(a)(1) of the OSHA General Duty Clause. Fines against healthcare providers have been steep; OSHA has taken a very simple position: "you know you have an issue; do something about it or pay the price".

This new template is designed to meet to the requirements of OSHA 3148, and to provide guidance and direction to medical spa's in preventing workplace violence, recognizing key warning signs of pending violence, and support workers who may be victims of domestic violence in the home and may bring the threat into the workplace. The template is regularly $61.25 and a 20% discount is available to AmSpa members only. If you are an AmSpa member and are interested in receiving the discount, please contact Gina Meyer-Shaffer at gshaffer(at)americanmedspa(dot)org to receive the promo code.

Additional Safety Tools Available
Along with the Laser Safety Plan Template, AmSpa, in collaboration with Sorensen, Wilder & Associates, offer a variety of additional safety tools and templates for medical aesthetic facilities, laser centers and medical spas. These include the following:

OSHA Self-assessment Tool for Medical Spas ($312.50/$250 for AmSpa members with promo code): This comprehensive tool is "a one of a kind document with a one of a kind approach." When you purchase and download this self-assessment tool, you perform the in-house self-assessment as guided by the tool. Upon completion, it will be sent back to the offices of Sorensen, Wilder & Associates and it is then scored. A written report will be provided, indicating actions that need to be taken to become complaint. Up to 60 minutes of free access to Sorensen, Wilder & Associates professionals is provided with this tool for any questions you may have in developing your program.

Slips, Trips and Falls Policy Template ($61.25/$49 for AmSpa members with promo code): A common risk to medical aesthetic facilities, this plan template addresses common areas such as the workplace risk analysis, managing health and safety, hazard prevention and control, training, accident investigations, and much more. Available

Hazard Communication Plan Template ($98.75/$79 for AmSpa members with promo code): The law says that "employees have the right to know about the hazardous chemicals they are exposed to in the workplace" and this plan template helps you achieve compliance. Includes requirements for the list of approved chemicals in your facility, requirements for safety data sheets, hazardous chemical spills and cleanup, compliance checklists, and much more.

Control of Hazardous Energy Plan (Lockout/Tagout) ($61.25/$49 for AmSpa members with promo code): The content of this document includes purposes of lockout/tagout; preparation to implement a lockout or a tagout; procedures to implement a lockout or a tagout; restoring equipment to normal operations after repair; and more.

Recordkeeping Policy Template ($61.25/$49 for AmSpa members with promo code): In health care, recordkeeping violations are some of the top OSHA citations. The requirements are very clear, from documentation to record retention, and required OSHA logs.
Medical Spa Safety Plan ($61.25/$49 for AmSpa members with promo code): Your safety program cannot be built without a good foundation, and this plan template provides just that.

General Office Safety Plan Template ($61.25/$49 for AmSpa members with promo code): Workplace accidents are usually no accident. There is always a cause, and always a way it could have been avoided. Includes guidelines on general office safety, walking-working surfaces, means of egress, personal protective equipment and more.

Bloodborne Pathogens Policy Templates ($98.75/$79 for AmSpa members with promo code): Is there a "reasonable expectation" that your employees may be exposed to the blood or body fluids of a patient? If so, you are required to have a Bloodborne Pathogens/Exposure Control Plan in place. This template meets all of the OSHA requirements and is ready for you to tailor it to your operations and implement it. Includes required forms, compliance checklists, training requirements, and much more.

Emergency Operations Plan Template ($61.25/$49 for AmSpa members with promo code): A basic template that provides the foundation to build a comprehensive, all perils preparedness and response plan for the threats you face.
