The Temple City Council approved the annual renewal for the city's employee health insurance policy with Gallagher Insurance for $1,122.33 per month, per employee.
A benefits broker from Gallagher spoke with the council about the renewal at the council's Monday, June 2 meeting. The policy will be effective as of July 1, 2025, and will run through June 30, 2026.
The council approved several purchases, including a mini excavator for nearly $83,000. A new generator was purchased for the police department for nearly $16,000. Finally, furniture for the senior center was purchased for $13,100.
The estimated millage rates for Carroll County (4.16) and Haralson County (1.047) were approved to be submitted.
Under a Georgia law that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2025, governing bodies are required to set an estimated millage rate. Each year, the Carroll County and Haralson County tax commissioners set a rollback rate intended to keep property tax revenue at the same amount as the year before to offset inflation.
In other business, the council:
Approved renovations to the city sidewalks as the primary SPLOST project to be submitted to the Carroll County Commissioners on Monday.
Held a public hearing and approved a final plat approval request for phase two for the new townhouse community Azalea Hills. The property owner previously met with the planning commission on May 20, and they recommended that the council approve the request.
Approved a title change in the public works department. The title is being changed from crew chief to maintenance lead operator.
The next Temple City Council meeting will take place Monday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the William Simmons Administration Building, located at 240 Carrollton St.
