Spirit Lake woman gets probation for insurance fraud
Sioux City Journal (IA)
SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa -- A Spirit Lake woman has been placed on probation for insurance fraud.
Tammy Jo Zemler, 51, pleaded guilty April 8 in Dickinson County District Court to one count of fraudulent submission to an insurer. District Judge Nancy Whittenburg on Monday deferred judgment and placed Zemler on two years probation. If Zemler successfully completes her probation, the charge will be expunged from her record. Two other counts of fraudulent submission, plus three counts each of forgery and identity theft were dismissed.
The Iowa Insurance Division began an investigation in April 2022 and discovered Zemler, who was working as an insurance producer, altered documents and submitted them in support of insurance policies knowing they misrepresented material facts.
