Single-payer healthcare, state budget, bills on tap for Dababneh townhall today
Daily News (Los Angeles, CA)
June 03--With the future of Obamacare uncertain, California lawmakers have taken initial steps toward adopting a single-payer healthcare system for the Golden State.
The proposal passed by the state Senate on Thursday may be the talk of a town hall meeting on Canoga Park today hosted by state Assemblyman Matt Dababneh, D-Woodland Hills.
The Budget Town Hall will take place at 3 p.m. at Westfield Topanga Community Center, 21710 Vanowen St.

In addition to the $180 billion budget proposed for 2017-2018, state legislators from the San Fernando Valley are expected to discuss recent state legislation.
The buzz may go to a bare-bones bill approved by the state Senate on Thursday to adopt a single-payer healthcare system. The catch: it lacks the means to pay the $400 billion tab.
Senate Bill 562, which proposes a Medicare-for-all-type healthcare system, will soon go the state Assembly for consideration.
Special guests at the Saturday afternoon town hall meeting will be Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Sherman Oaks; state Sen. Henry Stern, D-Canoga Park; and state Controller Betty T. Yee.
An interactive presentation of the budget will be given by Next 10, a nonpartisan group.
Dababneh's 45th Assembly District includes the west San Fernando Valley stretching from Calabasas to Chatsworth, and from Northridge to Sherman Oaks. Www.assembly.ca.gov/a45.
