The American Health Care Act is being written behind closed doors without public hearings and input.
This is creating uncertainty across the country. My 61-year-old father called me this week, hoping for insight from his son on the inside. You see, I work for Senator Jon Tester in his Missoula office.
Also, my father has cancer. It’s been a long battle. It’s not done yet, but we hope and pray every day that it will go away.
He was calling his son, an employee of the U.S. Senate, to try find out what was going on because he heard lifetime caps were possibly coming back, and now he has a pre-existing condition. Would he be able to get insurance under the AHCA? Would these lifetime caps be retroactive? Would he and my mom be okay?
I didn’t have any answers for him. My story is not unique. Families across the country are asking the same questions. My father and these families deserve an open and transparent process.
