Sen. Whitehouse Introduces Bill on Waiting Period for Disability Insurance Benefits

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 -- Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., has introduced legislation (S. 379) to amend title II of the Social Security Act "to eliminate the five month waiting period for disability insurance benefits under such title for individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis."

The bill was introduced on Feb. 15 and was co-sponsored by Sens. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. It was referred to the Senate Finance Committee.
