Sen. Scott Wilk names Nancy Tong Insurance his Small Business of the Month

Dec. 17--HESPERIA -- State Sen. Scott Wilk has honored Nancy Tong Insurance Agency with his Small Business of the Month award.

Wilk, who represents the 21st Senate District, presented Tong with the award during a presentation Monday that was attended by community members, local business owners, customers, family and friends.

"Nancy has a great personal story. She came to this country from Taiwan as a small child, became a citizen in the 1980s, served in the U.S. Navy as a young adult and then went on to open her own insurance agency," Wilk said.

Wilk said Tong, whose business is located in Hesperia, has a great appreciation for the community and does much to support families and businesses in the Victor Valley.

Tong opened her business 4 1/2 years ago. She has been in the insurance industry nine years. She is always at the ready to contribute to the betterment of the community by helping youth, and supporting education and special needs families, Wilk said in a news release.

Tong serves with the Hesperia Unified School District Parent Coordinating Council to raise funds for scholastic scholarships for high school seniors. She is also the secretary for both the Centennial Lions Club and the the Rock'n Our Disabilities Foundation, and an active member of the Hesperia and Victor Valley chambers of commerce.

"It's an honor and privilege to be recognized by Sen. Wilk," Tong said. "I have a great team here at Nancy Tong Insurance Agency who understands the importance of doing the best work possible for our clients and Hesperia. Giving back to a community that is so supportive of my business, my family and me is truly a pleasure."

Small businesses are the economic engine of California, Wilk said in the release. There are 3.7 million small businesses in California that employ nearly 50% of the state's workers.
