Sen. Rosen Commemorates Ten Years of Affordable Health Care Coverage Under the ACA, Urges Nevadans to Get Covered

WASHINGTON, March 24 -- Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nevada, issued the following news release:

U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) being signed into law by urging Nevadans to take advantage of the Silver State Health Exchange's current special enrollment period.

"In the years since the bill's enactment, we've seen the positive effects that this robust health care law has had and the American people have experienced its benefits first-hand," said Senator Rosen.

"Now more than ever, we must work to defend the ACA from attempts to dismantle it, and instead build upon the progress we've made over the last ten years by improving our health care system.

This includes addressing Nevada's doctor shortages by increasing the number of Medicare-supported residency positions, lowering skyrocketing drug costs, and protecting coverage for Americans with pre-existing conditions. I urge all Nevadans to take advantage of Nevada's special enrollment period by finding the right plan for themselves and their family."

BACKGROUND: The Silver State Health Exchange announced a special enrollment period for qualified Nevadans, from March 17, 2020 through April 15, 2020. Nevadans who don't have insurance can get covered by visiting http://nvhealthlink.com/ and enroll in subsidized coverage that will protect them and their families as a result of the COVID-19 public health crisis.

Last week, Senator Rosen joined Senate colleagues in sending a letter to President Trump urging him to reverse his policy of refusing to defend the constitutionality of the ACA in the Texas vs. United States lawsuit, and cease all other attempts to undermine our nation's health care law.

As her first action in the Senate, Senator Rosen joined Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) in introducing a resolution that would authorize Senate Legal Counsel to intervene in Texas v. United States - a pending lawsuit in federal court, on behalf of the U.S. Senate, in order to defend the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act and its coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Just last week, the Trump Administration filed a brief in this case calling for the courts to strike down the ACA in its entirety.

Last year, Senator Rosen also helped introduce a resolution that would provide the sense of the Senate that the Justice Department should reverse its policy of refusing to defend the constitutionality of the ACA, including the law's coverage protections for those with pre-existing conditions, in Texas v. United States.
