U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) announced today that the state of Ohio received an additional $165 million in federal funding for children's hospitals provided thanks to the CARES Act, which Portman supported. Ohio received $165 million of the $1.4 billion announced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Provider Relief Fund for almost 80 free-standing children's hospitals nationwide. This comes after Portman has repeatedly urged the administration to support health care providers that serve our nation's most vulnerable, including our children's hospitals, nursing homes, and safety net hospitals. The state-by-state breakdown of funding is here. Portman issued the following statement:
"The coronavirus has severely impacted our children's hospitals in Ohio as they've made sacrifices in suspending elective care to support our frontline providers, which is why I'm pleased the Trump Administration has released an additional $1.4 billion in CARES Act funding to help.
"Today's announcement is a positive step forward for our children's hospitals in Ohio, which have taken a direct financial hit during this ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
"I urge the Administration to continue to work expeditiously to get the remaining CARES Act funding out to hospitals and health care providers so that we can support them as they continue to care for those impacted by the health care crisis."
