Sen. Murkowski Introduces Bill on Exception Process for Medication Step Therapy Protocol

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 -- Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has introduced legislation (S. 2546) to amend the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 "to require a group health plan or health insurance coverage offered in connection with such a plan to provide an exceptions process for any medication step therapy protocol."

The bill was introduced on Sept. 25 and has seven co-sponsors. Co-sponsors include Sens. Doug Jones, D-Ala., Bill Cassidy, R-La., Margaret Wood Hassan, D-N.H., Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., and Angus S. King Jr., I-Maine.

The legislation was referred to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.
