Resource Connection, Health Fair Thursday

Sept. 21--The fourth annual Henderson County Non-Profit Resource Connection is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Cain Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Some of the exhibitors will be Gibson Pharmacy with low cost flu shots and Carter Bloodcare will hold a blood drive during the event.

"We will have estate planning, exercise for balance, exercise for seniors, blood glucose testing, ear and eye screenings, as well as diabetes testing," said event organizor Mary Waddell.

Waddell said mammograms will be available by ETMC Mobile Digital Mammography Unit.

Statistics demonstrate that one in eight women will be affected by breast cancer throughout her lifetime. Annual screening mammography is a simple tool that can save lives.

Studies show that diagnosis and treatment of early stage breast cancer can be successful with long term survival and cure.

October marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual event that was established to increase understanding of the disease.

Call Mary Waddell at 903-275-4644 to schedule an appointment for a mammogram. They accept Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance.

Bob Moore, a retired professor from Trinity Valley Community College, will be the guest speaker with a humorous motivational speech about exercise.

Non-profit organizations will be a big part of the event. There will be between 25 to 40 non-profits and health care providers at the event.

"The purpose is so the non-profits can show the community the many volunteer opportunities available in Henderson County," said Waddell. "Come learn what a non-profit in Henderson County can do for you. People in the community are not aware of what non-profits do."

All non-profits, such as the Henderson County Help Center, East Texas Crisis Center, the Family Peace Project, United Way and many more are always in need of volunteers.

Square dancers from the Pea Pickers, as well as the Log Cabin Swingers will be entertaining attendees.

The event is open to the public. Visit the Non-Profit Resource Connection and Community Health Fair for food, entertainment and door prizes.
