Repealing the Affordable Care Act Will Impact Millions of Americans with Employer-Based Coverage

This week, House Republicans are moving forward with their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act without offering a replacement. Repealing the ACA will not only cause 30 million people to lose their health coverage and increase premiums by 20 percent or more, but it will have significant effects on the tens of millions of Americans who rely on health coverage through their employer.

For the 150 million Americans who have employer-based insurance coverage, repealing the Affordable Care Act will:

*End the requirement that health insurance companies cover preventive care services without charging a copayment or coinsurance. [Healthcare.gov ]

*Services such as cancer screenings, STD testing, and domestic violence counseling would no longer be provided without a copay. [Healthcare.gov ]

*End the requirement that insurance companies provide yearly wellness visits free of charge. [HHS ]

*End the requirement that health insurance companies provide flu shots and other vaccines without charging a copay. [HHS ]

*End the provision that allows young adults to stay on their parents' insurance plans until they reach the age of 26. [Healthcare.gov ]

*End the requirement that insurance companies provide birth control and other forms of contraception without charging a copayment. [Healthcare.gov ]

*Make it harder for nursing mothers to pump or nurse because they'll no longer be provided with "reasonable" break time or private space to do so. [HHS ]

Democrats will continue to fight Republican attempts to take away affordable and quality health coverage from millions of American families.
