House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the distribution of $51.6 million in CARES Act funding to nursing homes in Louisiana to support increased testing, staffing, and personal protective equipment (PPE) needs:
"I want to thank President Trump and his Administration for sending us $51.6 million in funding to provide 275 nursing homes throughout Louisiana with increased supplies for their testing, staffing, and PPE needs.
"The science and data have proven that our seniors in nursing homes are the most vulnerable to COVID deaths, and this grant will save lives by protecting residents and health care workers on the front lines of the fight against this pandemic."
Today's funding announcement by HHS includes almost $2.5 billion in additional funding to over 15,000 nursing homes nationwide and supplements the $4.9 billion that was previously distributed to skilled nursing facilities - including $98.5 million in funding for Louisiana nursing facilities announced in May. In this distribution, Louisiana will receive 275 payments totaling $51,628,050.
