Rep. Price Announces North Carolina Disaster Relief Recovery Funds

WASHINGTON, May 14 -- Rep. David Price, D-North Carolina, issued the following news release:

- North Carolina to receive $336.5 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development

On Tuesday, May 14, 2019, Congressman David Price (D-NC) released a statement on the news that North Carolina will receive $336.5 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds, which can be used for economic revitalization, housing repairs, restoration of infrastructure, and other purposes.

As Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, Chairman Price worked to secure these funds as a part of the supplemental disaster recovery package included in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, which was signed into law on October 5, 2018.

"Communities in North Carolina are still reeling from the damaging effects of Hurricanes Florence and Matthew, and I'm pleased to announce that our state will receive nearly $337 million in additional disaster recovery funds to provide much needed relief," said Congressman Price. "While this announcement is welcome news, it remains imperative that HUD and the Trump administration release the $168 million in separate mitigation funding that was appropriated by Congress more than 14 months ago and has yet to be sent to North Carolina.

"On Friday, the House passed a disaster relief package to provide additional funding to our state and other impacted areas, which included a bipartisan amendment to force the administration to release these stalled funds. I will continue to work with Governor Cooper and the North Carolina Congressional Delegation to ensure our state receives the resources it needs to make a full recovery."
